About Geertje Hoekstra

"Geertje Hoekstra studied flute at Music Pedagogy Academy in Leeuwarden. She continued her study under Patrick Gallois at the École Nationale de Musique Aulnay-sous-Bois (Paris), where she obtained the superior Premier Prix, and at Jo Hagen at the Rotterdam Conservatory. She also took classes under Abbie de Quant and Derek Moore, and attended master class with Trevor Wye, William Bennet, Geoffrey Gilbert and Alain Marion.

Geertje Hoekstra played for many years as a permanent substitution at various orchestras in the Netherlands, including the Frysk Orchestra, Opera Forum and the capital operetta, and participated in several musical productions. As a soloist, she performed the Piccolo concert in C by Vivaldi, made a tour with the Festival orchestra Pontarlier by France with the fifth Brandenburg concert of Bach and at the orchestra Wiener Melange she did solo on piccolo in Le Merle Blanc of Damaré.

As a teacher she was affiliated to the Municipal Music Institute Leeuwarden and worked for the SKVR in Rotterdam.

Currently Geertje Hoekstra is the first flutist at the symphony Orchestra Rijnmond. She also forms a regular duo with pianist Lita Kranendonk and she is regularly heard in various chamber music ensembles."
